I'm not sure how these points work, but I had 40 points for the longest time. after many posts it just clicked to 41 and I'm wondering why?

  • you looking at your posts or your points? Because you have 86 points, not 41.

The point system here is just another method of 'tagging' members. On the old system (and many other forums) its a name.
For example, the old Spine-Health site had:
    Newbies < 10 Posts
    Members > 10 < 100
    Senior Members > 100
    Expert > 500
    Authority > 1000

Here points provide a similar function. You receive 2 points for each post your make or a topic thread you created.

    So: 41 Posts = 82 Points.

From the initial migration to Drupal, there were some additonal points given, so that might have changed some of the numbers for the people that started right away
