Hey everyone i am in chronic pain everyday ive learned to keep it in and not bitch. Bitching only makes it worse, but tomarrow i go see a neuro. and i prey he isnt a dick like the last ones and help me with my pain. I am gonna describe it to him the best i can and how my life was improving with the medicine i was gradually getting better with P.T that i no longer can do and it was allowing me to get up and gain my life back into control. 8 days with no meds in this kind of pain is enough to make you sign into the nut home. Prey for tomarrow any suggestions. I have had fentanyl patches they took away almost all of my pain but my sciatica pain but i can live with that. Oxycodone and neproxen was working pretty good, it was bareable to get through the days. How do i go about asking him about what can help me pain the most. I want to prove to them its improving my quality of life...

Sorry so long... Thanks in advance.

  • First off don't go in asking him what he's going to do for you. Sit down tonight and write out an outline of what your symptoms are. Then make a list of all the meds you have had and mark whether they have helped or not. Make sure you put the loss of bowel and bladder control on the top of your list of symptoms. Also if you can, make a diagram of where your pain is and also where your numbness is. Also make a list of all the things you can no longer do and for how long this has been going on.

Let him be the doc, not you. Let him decide what to look for and what is important or not. You are going to him as the specialist. If you try to tell him what you think he should do, he will walk you out the door in no time and you will be screwed.

Be honest with him and don't try to create something that just isn't there.

  • I have found for a person of my age in this area this is how you have to do it to get any kind of medication to treat the pain. Other wize they walk all over you and send out out the door with tramadol or flexeril that i have had previosly but. I was just asking for your opinion no to be flamed on. I already have the human body scale along with outline a whole folder with my mri discs and my pamplets.
  • Well, with my experience, I didn't get a word in with the Neurosurgen, because he is going to go in a do his job.
  • You think I flamed you? Dang dude I was just trying to help you out. Otherwise from the way you are talking, you just want drugs and really don't give a shit about finding out what's causing your problems, let alone getting it fixed.

    Have fun.

  • Naw but seriously i am not kidding you i have told you my problems i went to see a very talked of neurosurgeon in williamsport. He didnt pull my mri up in front of me or anything grabbed my medicine told me it was way to strong and told me i had shin splints and said it would go away in a year or two. I have had it pretty bad after 7 doctors 3 being pretty good but wouldnt do the surgery. I have found myself here, i was just trying to get input on how to approach it seeing how everytime before i got walked all over and offered no help. Besides the 4 doctors were seen with me and my mother, that helped me but didnt wanna take the chance with surgery. Im confused as hell, and having a bad day.
  • Im just trying to cope with the fact that if i gotta feel this pain one more day ill sure it on my own. Life isnt worth being abused like this everyday, constantly feels like someone has a grasp on my lower spinal cord and pushing on my organs i hate it. After my incident on the 12th with my bowels i have gone to the bathroom that way since, im kinda freaked out, ive been stressin about it.
  • I'm sorry that you are having a rough day. Pain can make us say and do things that we regret later. Adds a whole new twist to "you are getting on my last nerve."

We come here for advice and even more so support. Please know that we are here for you and try to get what you can out of different opinions. We all travel such different roads on this journey.

  • Do you think you are the only one that has horrible pain? Do you think you are the only one who has had bad experiences with docs?

EVERYONE on this board is there or has been there. Do you see any of them giving up because they have had a bad day or a bad week or month or 30 years of horrible chronic pain?

I hate to say it, but I agree with Jon. You seem to want everyone else to do it for you. I hate to break it to you, but becoming an adult isn't always fun.

I have been right here trying to make sure that someone on this board was watching out for you. TO HELP YOU. I have PM'd other members and asked them to do the same for you. Do us all a favor and LISTEN.

  • I see that this has turned into a dispute. I am only 22 years old and think it's the end of the world. But I would agree with C, you should try listening. It helps, and this place is great and can really help, it has changed my perspective.
