Disability Questions

Hello. So, I was told by my GP that I should qualify for disability benefits, but that it would take yet another specialist to help with my case. Have any of you that applied for disability run into problems? Not sure if I should hire a disability lawyer or wait til I see surgeon? :? I had applied for SSI a couple years ago, but was shot down pretty quickly. Any advice you guys want to give me about applying would be greatly appreciated. One more quick question. Even though I havent seen surgeon yet or hired attorney, should I start the filing process online now or what? :)))

  • By "disability", I assume you're referring to SSDI, or Social Security Disability? If so, then by all means YES, get things started right away! You need to expect to wait a good 2 years or more tho. Hopefully you'll be lucky and not have to wait that long, but most do. It's been 2 1/2 yrs for me and I just found out today that it will probably be April before I get my appeal hearing so that puts it over 3 years since I applied. :W

Too bad you didn't follow up with last time when you were denied, cause that's why they do it-so you'll give up. You can be certain they'll deny you again, but that's when you get your attorney involved, if you haven't already.

  • :) hi! i was denied the first time but had arbitration and have been on it for 12 years now. i keep records of all my doctor appointments, changes in meds, treatments. anything which can show you are not well. they will most likely give you one of their doctors to see but the more doctors you have on your side the better, so see a surgeon soon.good luck and get started. the sooner you do, the sooner you will get some financial relief! Jenny :)
