ok--to sum up for all who do not know me--i am 38, have had 3 liminectomies and decompressions over 6 years covering l3-s1 and also t8-t11.i ahave multi level ddd and neural foraminal stenosis. am not currently a sugical candidate due to weight issues.also have chronic hernitions (multi-level)

my problem is this:
no matter what position i am in, my legs and feet go numb--increase in foot drop and when walking in the apt, i find that after a while, i tend to drag feet on the floor.

pain levels have not changed and do nothing to effect the numbness

whenever i have gone in to see any of the docs/specialists, they cannot find any specific reason for the change, so i feel like im crazy, and altho I KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN MY BODY---WHY CAN'T ANY ONE ELSE SEE THIS?????
~X( :''( 8} ~X( :''( 8} ~X( :''( 8} ~X( :''( 8}

ok, 'nuff ranting--when do i finally say that this is more than i can handle, and reguardless of the weight that i have gained in the year and a half that it took for all the docs to figure out what was wrong in my back this time, it is time for something to be done.

the last time i went to the er for pain-my brother called ambulance for me as i was lying in bed crying and unable to move-they kept me for four days. with kids and holiday coming up, this is not an option. i refude to give up and retreat back to my bed. all i ask for is to do my dishes, cook dinner for my family, and pick up a little in my tiny apartment. why is this too much to ask for????

thanks for listening

  • Welcome to spine-health..
  • We certainly feel for you and no one can tell you what to do better than you can. You know your body better than anyone else.

    We are here for you! :D
  • dawn--perhaps it is a good idea to revisit the issue with your dr as you mention, and figure out how you can function as you need to..I would mention to the dr that you had to go to the hospital and was there 4 days, which is long today as hospitals try to get you out ASAP...But hang in there....jade
  • oops--my hospital stay was back in july, and pc doc knows about it as does the surgeon who did the last 2 ops. on me. am thinking that i will go to new surgeon--already seen him once--and see if he can/will do anything yet.

    im scared they wont find anything new, and scared that they will....
  • Have you tried a pain management doc yet? I went through the same thing with nobody able to pinpoint where my pain was coming from until I found my PM. They are specialists in the area of pain and may be a little better at pinpointing things that do not show up on MRI or xrays. Just a thought. Good luck to you and please keep us posted.
  • oh yeah--seen at pain clinic for over a year until i was told that there was nothing more that they could do for me other than to write scripts for me every month. during that time i did pool therapy, land therapy a chronic pain program, was given a tens to use, multi level epidurals, nerve ablation, and facet joint injections. also saw the psych. through them as well to help me cope with all of this. they refused to even discuss/acknowledge the numbness.

    jnow, after all of this time, how much will my nerves heal?
  • Hello again,
    remember from the live forum earlier 2 dawns..lol. Sorry your suffering i am too, i still dont have my full diagnosis and answers et. hopefully tomorrow that will change. When i seen the Shoulder specialist who works with the Spine specialist who i see on 12/5 they seem to know alot without even looking at results. he felt muscle that where spasmed and so forth and gave me a blind injection like nothing in a muscle spasm in my shoulder, he said it is for relief and also for a diagnosis test for the spine specialist to see if most of the pain is coming from the neck or equal with the shoulder since the problem i have are in both areas which he said is very common. they are orthopedics who specialize in each part as i said above. its called trigger point injections. it can last up to a year, im sad to say i had mine in my shoulder last week but it didnt work cause my pain is coming from my neck traveling. but atleast you will know whats going on and where by the nerve roots and muscles affected with these kind of specialist. Hey anything is worth a shot at this point. feel better.
