Provigil

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Sorry if it's not.

I had an appt at my PM's office today. Re-evaluate meds and such. The front office is such a disaster but at least the people that actually do something for you are good. Anyway. I have a big problem taking Vicodin for pain. It makes me so sleepy that I cannot take a whole one and stay awake. At 1/2 I feel like I've had one or two drinks too many. At 1/4 (of a 500 mg dose) I can stay awake but it doesn't do much for the pain I'm in. They decided to put me on Provigil to try to combat the drowsy/sleepy side effects. Anybody every hear of or done this before?

Provigil is normally given to people with narcolepsy (I don't have it). I asked the pharmacist about it and he said that he didn't think it would help unless the dr thinks the Rx will alter my brain chemistry enough to combat the side effects of the Vicodin. I was given a coupon for a free 7 day supply plus another Rx for 30 more if it works. So I'm not out any money if it doesn't help.

Just wondering what anyone thinks or has experienced with this med. Thanks!

  • I would love to take provigil to keep me alert. I hope you'll be able to get to sleep taking it. Take care. Charry

  • I'm on oxycontin and percocets and my doctor started me on Provigil to help combat drowsyness from the narcotics.

I only take them early in the morning when I get up, they last all day. I have no trouble getting to sleep 17-18 hours later.

The Provigil makes it possible for me to do some productive computer work (at home) now.

  • takes Provigil and it has changed her life. Her problem stemmed from other issues causing massive lack of sleep, but she is a huge fan of that med. Hope it works for you.

  • it seems to be helping. I can take 1/2 a vicodin and stay awake and not feel like a zombie. I do have to talk to my PM though. Either the Provigil or Amrix are causing me to have a bad case of cotton mouth. I had a cold when I started them so when it started I just thought the cold was causing it. But now I know better. From what I've read I think it's the Amrix. I see the PM again next Thursday.
