;) Hi I wrote few weeks ago regarding my condition. DDD with Spondolithesis L4 L5 and narrowing of my spinal canal. Went to UC Davis Medical Pain management today in Sacramento. Was there 2.5 hours. The specialist's I saw were fantastic. Surgery is not an option because of my medical history. Was wondering if anyone else has used this medication with any good results.

  • I must tell you that this stuff is wonderful for nerve pain but it will make you totally stupid! (I call it Dopomax) I got to where I could not spell even simple words or hold a thought in my head. I had to get off of it. Everyone is different though and the benefits may outweigh the side effects for you. Good luck and please keep us posted.
  • I think you answered this very question for me before. I read the side effects and it scared the living daylights out of me and I still have the prescription and don't think I'm going to ever get it filled. However, Bruce I think it was takes it as a maintenance medication for migraines and he hasn't had any trouble with it. The first side effect that everyone seemed to experience was weight loss. Well I only weigh 90 lbs to begin with. So I had to go with a big fat "Not for me" vote.
  • About how long does it take for this med to start helping? Doctor has me on schedule of one every evening for a week and increasing weekly until desired result. I hope it works, any input on this?
  • I took that for awhile and it was given to me for anxiety. It did nothing for anxiety and less for any back pain I had, which was constant. A top uptown psychopharmacologist took me off it without my asking, was totally non-plussed at it's efficacy for ANYTHING!
  • :$ I have been using the Topomax twice a day now one am one pm and it has really helped with the twitch I would experience at night which would keep me up. But it does cause me to have weird dreams. Dont like that much. I had a bone scan yesterday to rule out cancer. (I had CA 7 years ago) Cervical. Report was good. NONE !!!! But I have soooooooooooo much pain. Cant stand or walk for more than 10 minutes. Am trying to get PT referral for more core training to build up muscles in pelvic lower back area. Hope this will help. Any Help or ideas. LOVE to hear anyone! :) Wish some I knew a shot that will relieve some pain.....so scared of them.....
  • you are suffering this pain, but so glad your cancer report was clear. I personally do not tolerate any of the nerve meds and since I have permanent S1 nerve damage, that stinks. I can only take some pain meds, but did just get the SCS - spinal cord stimulator. Kind of like a pacemaker for the nerves. It blocks the pain for me - my 24/7 burning nerve pain is greatly decreased. I also could not sit/stand/walk/anything for longer than 20 to 30 minutes. It really shuts down your life when your mobility is so affected.

I hope you find some help soon,

    Cheri
