I just returned from a second opinion-still recommending surgery-but with a diagnosis of lumbar spinal stenosis, with a small (5mm)disc extrusion. This doc was an ortho surgeon and recommended lumbar decompression, my other doc was a nuerosurgeon that said the disc extrusion was needing microdiscectomy. The problem is I really like the ortho, he spent a lot of time explaining things and said the disc was a very small part of the problem and that the narrow spinal canal and thickened ligamnet was the problem. His explanation makes more sense, but for the life of me I can't find one website or person who has terrible pain when sitting like I do. It worries me that sitting should feel better, but it doesn't. Perhaps I don't have spinal stenosis? Does anyone out there w/lumbar SS have pain when sitting?????
