Radioactive treatment???

I've gotten 2 ESI's now in my lower back and one in my upper in the last couple months. The doctor is talking about doing another booster or two in the upper and maybe another in the lower. While my lower back pain is MUCH better, it is still giving a significant amount of pain. At my last appointment, the doctor mentioned something like if we can't get the pain under control in my lower back, we may want to consider a radioactive treatment in which it will take the nerve a year to grow back.

Does anyone know what kind of procedure he's talking about?
I'm all for avoiding surgery, but radioactive treatment seems a little scary.

Any information on this procedure - what it's about is MUCH appreciated!
