PLEASE answer. i am goin to orthopedic next week

  • Who is treating you for this at the moment? I would definitely try to get in to see ortho about it. Never heard of this happening before, but wish it wasn't so bad for you.

    Hang in there,

  • I had something similar happen when I had my second baby. They had trouble getting the IV line in and several different people tried to do it. I'm not sure how many attempts were made, but someone eventually managed to get it in.

I didn't have as dramatic a reaction as you did, but I had lots of pain, loss of movement in hand, etc. I just kept trying to ignore it, but then I developed what I call "wrist drop." I would go to pick up a pan off the stove and without any warning, my wrist would just flop. A number of times, I came close to dropping the baby before I figured out what was going on, and learned to be more careful.

I went to a number of different specialists and someone finally decided that a nerve had been "nicked" when they were trying to insert the IV line. I had problems for well over a year...can't even remember how long. I ended up going to a hand surgeon for probably a period of 18 months. He eventually injected it with cortisone and put it in a cast.

Eventually it got better, but it took a very long time. Now that I know how long it takes for a nerve to heal, I can understand why.

I hope yours is a more temporary situation and that you heal quickly.

About a year ago I was having some sort of test that required an injection of dye. The gal who had been running the test told me she was still a student and asked if I minded if she did the injection. She explained that I had a choice, so I asked for someone with more experience. I didn't want to go through that experience again!!
