On August 23, 2008, I suffered a traumatic accident where I fractured my C7 and also suffered herniated disc in between T2 and T3. I am currently seeing an Orthopaedic Surgeon who recommended head presses (to strengthen the soft tissue around the C-spine injury). In addition, he recommended 2 facet joint injections w/lidocaine and steroids. I take 1-2 Vicodin every 4 hours for pain. TOmorrow will be the 6 month anniversary of my accident. The fracture in the C-spine has not healed and the pain from the herniated disc in the T spine has gotten much worse. The pain mgt doc believes the relief I experienced after the facet joint injection to be indicative of pain coming from the facet joint at C6-C7. He recommends a rhizotomy to eliminate the pain.
After the facet joint injection, I complained of severe pain and the ortho surgeon prescribed an aggressive 6 day course of steroids, followed up with another facet joint injection the following week. they seem to believe giving me steroids to reduce the inflammation is the answer, but this doesn't seem to be helping.
I have been reading up on thoracic spine surgery and from what I gather, it appears to be very rare. I believe that the source of my pain IS coming from this disc. I can pinpoint exactly where the pain is in my upper back and it is where that herniated disc is located. Has anyone else experienced this type of injury? I am curious to see if anyone out there has had surgery for a herniated disc in the thoracic spine and how it turned out...
