the short version:
Hello! I'm obviously new here and wanted to introduce myself. I am a 23 year old female who has had severe chronic back and neck pain since I was 17, I've had one surgery.

the long story:

My pain is mostly in my lower back, L5 which causes severe mostly left and sometimes right side pain in my legs all the way to my feet. I also have a recently discovered bone deformity in the upper part of my sacrum. I also have pain in my neck C4-6 that travels into my left arm and causes weakness and tremors. I currently cannot walk without the assistance of a cane, hold a job, do house chores, or walk for more then 15mins without being in severe pain.

I have had so many Doctors I can't name them all. I have tried without good results: physical therapy, massage therapy, traction therapy, chiropractors, multiple spine specialists, multiple neurologists, multiple rounds of epidurals, topical pain injections, many many many many meds I can't even think of the full list and weight loss. I am also now limited to the kinds of meds I can try since I had terrible seizures on Lyrica. I had a Lamenectomy and Discectomy which helped temporarily between the recovery time and the time the pain returned worse I spent about 5 months where I was able to do a bit more and hold a job.

I have also experienced disturbing pain attacks for the last few years, where my pain is much worse then usual and I will have long periods of time I don't remember, where I'm not able to talk to anyone around me and I am told that I say and do things that don't make sense. I wonder if anyone else has these kinds of experiences, my doctors believe it is because my body wont let me faint from the pain so I just have "dissociative episodes".

Alright well sorry for that long mess, I probably wont post much as I tend to be more of a reader then a talker but I would certainly like to have the chance to talk to people who have similar experiences. Thanks!

  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we re here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. please make yourself at home and have a look around.. don't be afraid to post, i am sure you have much to offer!! =D> i am sorry you have not found pain relief. i hope finding others suffering as you are will give you some comfort! ~X( good luck as you search for pain relief! :D Jenny :)
  • Thanks so much Jenny! I'm glad there are places where people can share answers even if it means they have had bad experiences themselves. I will try my best to make myself a useful member of the community! ^_^
  • Welcome to SH. I am so sorry to hear you are in such pain at such a young age. If you check my signature, you will see that I have struggled with back pain all my life as well. It's tough being young and trying to deal with all the emotions that come with being a teenager, trying to discover who you really are and to be dealing with chronic pain at the same time. It's hard just being a teenager now a days w/out pain.

I would like offer my support and understanding and feel free to PM me with any questions, comments or concers you may have or if you just want to vent or chat.
  • I always hate to hear of anyone experiencing the types of things that you are but it seems especially bad when they are so young. I wish that I had some advice to offer. I just wanted to welcome you here and say that I hope that you find help and relief soon. Please keep us posted.
  • So sorry to hear you are suffering at such a young age. I also have L5-S1 problems, and because I delayed medical treatment for 4 months, I now have permanent S1 nerve damage. Just got my permanent spinal cord stimulator (SCS) and my life is changing. So amazing. I can control the pain signal from getting to my brain and I buzz/tingle instead.

I haven't heard of those pain episodes where you act strange. Must be scary for you. The pain can get so severe with nerve issues.....your body must be protecting you.

    Welcome to Spine Health!

  • Thank you all for your kind reception, I was a little nervous about joining at first since I usually don't talk about my pain issued much, but I'm glad I did. Hopefully I can learn some new things that I can ask my doctors about and maybe try myself! Plus it is nice to hear other peoples experiences even though it means they too have met with unfortunate circumstances.
  • Just wanted to say hello & I am sorry for what your going through. No one really knows what someone in chronic pain goes through every day. Try to keep a smile on & think positive that it will get better.
