Feel like I dont have right to complain....but

I feel HORRIBLE when I read everyone elses problems on here and realize that my issues are really nothing compared to everyone elses ......but here is my issue.....PAIN THAT I CANT LIVE WITH

Here is my hx and I am hoping someone who reads this will have a miracle cure for me.....

I was in a riot at work (I am an officer) and a guy grabbed my leg. I fought him off and went about getting everyone under control. Later that day, my leg and back were sore. I went to a ortho surgeon later that week and ended up having 2 knee surgeries. I continued to complain of my back and finally a month later got a MRI. Well of course it only shows small SS and Bulges at 4mm each in the L4 - S 1 region. I also had two EMGs and they also show nerve damage in that same area.

I have been to several docs for the back and they all say no surgery - that I should live with the pain.

Well now my only doc is PM and he is trying different injection locations in order to locate the nerve damage and to try and get my pain under control. My issue is that here we are two years later and I cannot deal with this anymore. Seriously I just want to scream and NEED help!

here are some things that I have tried......
Water therapy
light therapy

I am on SOOO many meds: neurontin 2600mg a day, cymbalta 60mg, vicodin 500/5 every 4 hrs, soma 350 PRN, vit b1, b6, and b12 2000 a day, fentanyl 50mg every 24 hrs, lidoderm around the clock and flector around the clock. I also have to take SEVERAL laxatives in order to help things move and thyroid meds (due to cancer when I was 20)

Any suggestions?

  • Maybe a rhizotomy would help you,i had one done in 2008,i have a 9mm disc bulge L5 S- it did help with my nerve pain....I am not a surgical canidate too, because nothing is pressing on a nerve.....
  • Trigger point injections? accupuncture? I just ordered from il3health a back posture pump & they throw in the neck posture pump too. I can't wait too try this. $200. though. I also have a platinum infrared heating pad. Also little massage machines which are very reasonable on ebay. I guess just try more consults Neuro Dr? I have to get a third opinion because they say I'm not a candidate either. This site was useful also. www.chirogeek.com. Having 5 children and back problems must be so much for you. I hope your discs resolve on their own. I guess that's what the Drs say? Sorry you're having all these problems. Take care and hope you can find some tips from us here or just to be here to support you. Charry
DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN
  • I'm sorry you're having such a lousy time and you have every right to vent. Did you say you are on patches every 24 hours? I never heard of that frequency, only every 2 or 3 days. Also, you mentioned your MRI showed 2 small SS- are those herniations? If you're having nerve pain then you should be a surgical candidate. It looks like you've tried everything but surgery so far. I went through all the conservative treatments, including 2 surgeries, but I still have chronic pain and the nerve damage became permanent. Has anyone ever mentioned having an SCS or morphine pump put in? Those are considered last resort measures too and it is a major decision to make. I hope you're able to find a treatment that will work for you. Take care
  • hi! :H sorry you are having such difficult time right now. ~X( perhaps it would be of a benefit to have your meds looked at and perhaps condensed some. :? it seems some of the meds are repeats and that is alot of medication. are you being given these by one doctor? so many meds could make you feel very bad!!! :''( please talk to an appropriate doctor about this.. you might feel better! :D good luck with whatever you do!! Jenny :)
  • I have also had good results with a rhizotomy (nerve burn). Maybe after the diagnostic injections that you are receiving that will be an option for you too. I hope that you find some help and relief soon. Please keep us posted.
  • Hi,
Didn't see this post until after I wrote you information to you on the PM. Look into it if you want to before you consider other stuff. Who knows maybe you could be helped with the pain.
I certainly understand your need to scream. i think sometime I try and nothing comes out. I am not sure what I would say.
When did all this happen to you?
  • yes these are all perscribed by one doctor - and they have been looked at by 4 different specialists - all have kept me on the same

    Thanks for your thoughts though
  • I hernitaed L4-5 and L5-S1 last Feb, I was also in alot of pain, two Otho,s told me no surgery,
I have nerve damage, but what I can tell you is the real heavy pain will pass in time --I still have pain a year later--but my wife at the early stages would see me lying on my back in angony and want to call an ambulance- I told her that it will pass--- I don,t know if this helps , but I believe your body will get better in time- or at least feel better- the real heavy pain never lasts-it did go on for a long time -10 months, before I stsrted to feel some relief
