Hi everyone, i am 34 and too much sport created a stress fracture of the pars bone when young, creating a spondy of L5 and bulging disc which now causes sciatica in both legs and pain and tension in lower back and surrounding muscle groups.
I have had to give up all high impact sport and can't do the gardening for long now which i love. Having said that, my pain is not that bad and i live a reasonable life with work as a police officer not too impeded.
Problem is my condition is likely to worsen and specialist advises surgery with fusion of L4, L5, S1 and bone and disc clearance.
Should i do this and hit the problem early with all the risks involved, or should i wait for condition to worsen, then do surgery? Is there the potential for a life without pain and weakness, maybe back to playing other sports, or is this too hopeful and i should stick with what i have? Your comments would be most helpful.
