i'm sure this post isn't the 1st. to ever have something that can't be treated, diagnosed or don't know what caused it. any and all ideas will be appreciated. first, you'll have to know what has been happening so ya'll know allready that iv'e been to pain hell, but can't leave. please, iv'e tried just about everything you can think of so' no ordinary drugs, or remidies will help. what i would like is to see if there is anything that may be similar to what someone else may be experencing that i am going through and if anything your doing is working.
i have a horrible intense mindaltering , burning electrical, frostbite, numbing in both my feet for over 8 1/2 years. i have been to dozens of drs. specialists, theropies, and have even spent my entire fortune trying to find some kind of relief from this affliction that has invaded me.
my history, some diagnoses have been; fibromyalgia, nerve damage, reflex dystrophy, tarsal tunel syndrome and even electrocution from lightning.
i have lost everything. am now on disability, and have totally cut myself off from the human race. (because i don't want others to see me suffer) my choice. i once took all my meds and flushed em. thought i was dying. won't do that again.
does anyone know what i can do to stop the decline of a once proud, fit, energetic man. i had it all. my ducks in a row. i was a musician, business owner, athletic and was considered attractive, creative and confident. all those are long gone. i feel with the pride i once exibited, i can regain all again. but my faith is deminished. it's the constant pounding. day in and day out. 24/7.
anyone have or know someone with the same pain in their feet? please answer.

  • what is the pain scale? i read a lot of posts from this site and no one took one important aspect of the pain scale into consideration. on a 1-10, is it with, or without medication that your pain is rated? if your pain is a 5, is this when your sedated, or without? i thought that when a person says,"i was at a 7 today what it is like when i'm at a 7 or 8 and have 125 mg. of fentanyl, 400 mg of lyrica, 12,000 bts of b-12, 2 10 mg lortab, and 10 g of lidicaine. then i'm lucky if i'm at a 7. thanx for the nice welcome to a new poster. tonyo
  • Welcome to Spine Health >:D< I hope you find this community to be supportive and informative. I don't know what advice to give you in regards to your foot other than have they done a nerve test (EMG) yet?

I'm sorry to hear that you have isolated yourself, however coming here hopefully will brake you out of that shell. I know how you feel though. I used to be pretty fit, active, life of the party, I considered myself to be attractive and very outgoing. Now I'm overweight, in pain and just want to hide in my room. Luckily, I have 2 kids to take care or else I would have crawled into a hole and not come out. They are what keep me going. I refuse to become a victim and prisoner to my pain and I aggressively continue to pursue and explaination to the constant pain I experience even after my fusion.

Have you had any issues with your back such as discs or spinal cord? I don't know what else would affect your feet in that way other than if you did something to break your foot or something. You mentioned lightning. Did you actually get struck by lightning?

Please feel free to PM anytime you have any questions, comments, concerns or just need to chat or vent.
  • I am trying something new and since we can't mention doctor's names on here look on Google for Pheripheral nerve surgery and compression. I am having two nerves released below my knee in two weeks in order to hopefully bring back some function to my foot and end the controlling pain. I hope it helps.
  • i have a permanent pain full right foot ..its so painful that i carnt were shoes i have to were CROCS as they are the only thing that i can bear for a short time.my problem is permanent damage to the L5 nerve ..cause by damage during surgery.i take oxycodone for the pain but i can still feel it {morning is the worst time}
  • I have a numb foot and leg they call venous insufficiency. All goes back to the herniated disc and tear. I'm on narcotics, lyrica and muscle relaxers. Good luck Have you had an MRI of your feet? Take care. Charry
DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN
  • dear julie, i have already had a nerve reduction in my left ankle. it did worst and it went to my other foot. now both have the horror. ive exhausted every possible thing. seen 14 diff. specialists, 2 pain managments, 2 foot specialists, over 134 diff, mediocines. enough. and they still dont know what its from...what is causing it or how to treat it. what the hell else can i do??? i am now seeing a shrink cuz im having unnormal thinking. (no suicide) i have issues with the pain man. people cuz they wont give me enough to make my life tolerable. i am trying to live with 7-9 pain constantly. im affraid my mind cant take that kind of banging much longer. after 8+ yrs. i think ive had enough.
  • no one can tell me where is came from, what to do or how to treat it. 14 drs. 2 of them foot specialists. 6 neurologists, 4 orthopedic surgeons, and 2 gen. practs. 8 1/@ yrs. of excrutiating, electrical, burnig, frost bitenn horror. the pain management will not give me any increase cuz no one can diagnos what i have. so they cant treat it. the meds i take now are for other injuries, none for a bad back. i had 1 operation on left ankle. they called it a tarsal tunnul reduction (pinched nerve) problem is, didnt do any better. in fact, within 2 years it jumped to my right foot. now both are gone. i dont think people dont understand what im trying to tell them. very few peiople are in real pain. only someone that has been to the horror. probable will never return to the land of normalcy. thax for the lines. i tread em all. coool
  • I see you have gone to your share of dr's. I too, have unbearable foot pain. I cringe at the thought of putting on socks or shoes. I've gotten to the point where walking is unbearable. I do have spinal issues. L5-S1. Tens unit did not help. Also have permanent nerve damage. My nerve damage is in left leg and left foot but approximately three months ago pain is now on right side also. Had a anterior cervical fusion last march C5-6, C6,7 right vocal cord damaged so have very little voice if any. My days are spent sitting in my recliner with legs propped up most of the day. No socks or shoes only when I go for dr's appts. Neurontin is helping a little with the burning pain.
I was wondering if you have been checked for diabetic neuropathy? I imagine you have with all the dr's you have seen but nerve pain is just unbearable. I truly feel for you and understand your feelings of frustration. This may sound silly but when the burning and electric type pain is driving me nuts I have frozen bags of peas I put under my ankles. Obviously this doesn't take away all the pain but for some reason it helps a little. I hope you can find a physician to help but know this is a great place to discuss your problems and I think everyone here understands pain.
  • Could this possibly be RSD/CRPS? It's just an idea that you may want to look into.

I'm sorry that you haven't been helped so far. I really hope that you can find some form of relief soon.
