Ok so what is the difference between Vicodin and Norco? I know the norco has less acetomenifen (sp?) But all the sudden my doc keeps giving me Norco they don't seen to really help as much as the Vicodin?
Any comments would be appeciated.
Thanks :)

  • My doc says he switching me from vicodin to Lortab. i got the information sheet from the pharmacist and it is hydrocodone (generic). Then it has a section that says other names, norco, lortab, vicodin I think there were a couple other ones but I can't remember and I got rid of the information sheet after i read it.
  • He said he was putting me on the norco because there is a shortage of Vicodin....the pharmacy told me they are having a hard time getting it?! This is crazy!!!

  • Besides the obvious name differences the key is the primariy ingredient which is Hydrocodone represented by first nimber in MG's.The names differentiate the amount of tylenol aka APAP in each pill which is the second number. Here is a basic breakdown:

    Lortab- 2.5/500,5/500,7.5/500 or 10/500

    Norco- 5/325, 7.5/325, 10/325

    Lorcet Plus-7.5/650

    Lorcet 10/650

    Vicodin ES-7.5/750

    Vicodin HP-10/660

    Hope this helps.
  • If you are taking less that 4000 mg of Acetomeniphin and not getting it somewhere else you may be missing the Acetomeniphin. If that is that case and you are taking only one Norco, you may be able to fix it by simply adding a Tylenol/acetomeniphin.

You should not take more than 1000mg Acetomeniphin at one time or 4000mg per day. So if you take one 10/325 or 10/500 you can concievably add a tylenol of 500mg to it.

Please run any of these ideas past you doctor or pharmicist or BOTH, before doing or making any med changes.

I hope this was the answer you were looking for. That is the only difference beween Norco and Vicodin.
