I am 6 days post-op (1 level fusion - L5, S1) and have some concerns and I am probably over reacting.
1. I have a new pain on my left lower back (pain was on lower back and right leg prior to surgery). Can this be caused by different muscles compensating for the left side?
2. On day 6, post-op, I used the proper technique to bend my knees and picked up the dog's water bowl and when I was getting back up I felt a strain in my back - higher than the incision. The strain lasted a few hours and I took a muscle relaxant and don't feel any pain where I felt the strain. Could I have damaged the fusion just by picking up a dog bowl on the ground?
3. I am so worried that any wrong movement is going to ruin the fusion. What would it take for my fusion to be unsuccessful or the cage to shift or the disc or other discs to herniate? Can the herniated disc that is being fused, herniate before the fusion takes hold?
