I got the results of MRI today. I have C6 C7 herniated disc pressing on spinal cord. The DR said that we will wait and do nothing. He said if I show some symptoms (Bladder problems , pain, etc..) I may need surgery. Not sure what to do. What questions to ask?

  • Hi Stasker11,

Welcome to spine-health. You will find a lot of members just like yourself in the neck forum. If I was you I would get a second opinion just to make sure you have covered all your basis. How bad is your pain with that compression? What types are you doing to relieve your pain? Have you discussed with your doctor any complications by not doing surgery and or complications that could arise with surgery. How did you get injured or did you just wake up like that one day? Well be looking forward to reading more of your post and once again welcome to spine-health. Be sure to check out the FAQ section at top inside there you will find a list of questions to ask a spine surgeon.
  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. it is always good to get a second or even a third opinion. :? regardless, check through the forum for some good questions ideas. :W good luck in the future. be very aware of any bathroom problems. :D Jenny :)
  • Hi tamtam, Thanks for your response. I'm looking at a second opinion with a nerosurgen. I don't want surgery but I want to make sure no other damage can be done or is it possible to start PT.I'm not sure how this happen but I beleive that I could have had the problem for serveral years. Its hard to tell. I have no pain. My symptoms are odd, when I wake up in the morning I feel ok as the day progresses it gets worst. My back muscles tighten and I start to get this unsteadness feeling as I walk, or look down. As the day goes on I start to get fatigue. My MRI report states:

Loss of disc space hydration is seen at C5-C6 and C6-C7. There is straightening of nornmal lordotic curvature and this may be due to some element of paravertebral muscle spasm.

At C6-C7 disc herniation is present centrally and to left. This deforms the anterior left aspect of the cervical cord the ventral nerve root.

Not sure what all of this means yet.
  • Hello, I want to welcome you here. You sound a little like me 3 years ago.
