Can any help me to understand MRI results and maybe help deal with pain

Hello to everyone
I am new here and am hoping that I might get some questions answered here about my MRI results.
T10-T11 : DDD with disc height loss. A small left paracentral disc protrusion without cord contact.
T11-T12 : DDD with disc height loss. A moderate right subarticular disc protrusion indents the dural sac and displaces the exiting T11.
L3-L4: Mild facet degeneration.
L5-S1: DDD with disc desiccation, height loss and fatty endplate marrow change. A large central disc extrusion with superior extension indents the dural sac and contacts the descending S1 roots.
Have to tell you that I also have a bum knee and tore a tendon in my shoulder. The tendon is from a mva last year and the back problems started then too. The knee was there but had surgery the year before to help it but the mva put me back in for more surgery.
Any help understanding my results would be appreciated and maybe help trying to ease the pain.

Thank you

  • I have some facet joint problems and receive injections and it's helped a bit with the pain and moving. I also have a herniated disc with contact on the descending nerve roots which has been painful for me. I see a Pain Management Dr and have had physio and epidurals for sciatic pain. There is a lot of information here about DDD. I take lyrica for sciatica and flexeril a muscle relaxant and pain meds. Other than my sharing some similarities of your MRI scan your Dr will refer you to a Neurologist and maybe OrthoSurgeon for further assessment. Then a referral to a Pain Management Dr for injections possibly. I use heat on some muscles and that helps with the pain. Other people prefer ice for 15-20 minutes a few times a day. I hope you can get some answers soon and get some pain relief. Did your Dr give you any meds yet? You've been through so much we're here for you if you need more support. Take care. Charry
DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN
  • Thank you Charry.

I have been on so many different Nsaids it isn't funny. They were prescribed for my arm injury but now the sprain is healing and the back is getting worse. I was on Lycria for my arm and the problems with the nerves but had to stop as I couldn't function. I am hoping next week this doctor does something asap because I am now getting headaches from sitting. It is a slow process getting to the right doctors. It has taken almost a year just to get the MRI's done since the MVA and who knows how long it will take to find the right treatment. It seems like the gp can only handle taking care of one problem at a time for me. So now I have to go back and get the shoulder looked at by a Orthopedic Surgeon. I have already been told by one that it needs repaired.
  • I think it explains itself in the last sentence: (A large central disc extrusion with superior extension indents the dural sac and contacts the descending S1 roots). The question will be,how much pressure on the S1 nerve root?
  • What exactly does that mean though? That there is a disc still there or is it gone and bones are rubbing. That is how it feels to me. It is getting worse as the months go by. To find out how much pressure is on the root will they have to do that dye test or operate?

Thank you pedrazamarcos for your input but do you know anything about what it is also saying for the T10-11/T11-12.
