Hi everyone. I'm new here and looking for some advice/suggestions. I have had back pain since the age of 15. I'm 32 now. For the last two years it has been constant. I have a herniated disk at the L4/L5 region. Had the leg pain, testicle pain and back pain. I've had two shots in the back and been going to PT for about 6 weeks now. I'm heading back to the doctors office on Monday. Going to talk about the fusion surgery. I've done much research on this and heard the bad and good. Just asking for some advice/suggestions/success stories,etc...Looking for all the advice I can get. Also, I like to play golf, tennis, basketball and do boat in the summer.

Thanks for all the help

  • I am scheduled for a hybrid which is fusion at L4/L5 and adr at L3/L4. Maybe your surgeon would consider this? I want my usrgeons to consider a 2-level adr but this is being resisted right now.
I also love golf and other sports but I can't do much with the pain I am in. I am hoping that next year I can take up sports again but if not I guess I take up Bocce Ball...
  • Why would your doctor be considering a fusion for a herniated disc before attempting a discectomy and all the other procedures that would maybe provide relief? Fusion can not be undone and is a much longer recovery period than the others.

    You need a second opinion.
