microdiscectomy while pregnant

I was a half hour away from having a Microdiscetomy when I found out I was pregnant. I have a L5 herinated disc and extreme pain in my back and leg while sitting or walking. Now I am still living in a lot of pain, but had to cancel my surgery. I have talked with my OBGYN and he stated there would be no harm to my baby if I moved forward with a surgery after my first trimester, but I still have worries and concerns. Has anyone been in this situation and how did you move forward.
Any information would be appreciated!!!

  • I would search in Spine-Health forum because I think I read a post in which someone had micro. while she was pregnant.

BUT....I would be careful and get a second or third opinion.
  • I believe that procedure requires flouroscopy which delivers a fair amount of radiation to a fetus, how does the surgeon feel about the procedure with pregnancy?
  • I have talked to my OBGYN and an Anesthesiologist who both stated they are not worried about the Anesthesia, but the Anesthesiologist stated he is worried about my positioning because of laying on my belly. I have not talked again with my Surgeon since the day he had to cancel my procedure, so that is a question I need to ask. I know the surgeon was nervous when he found out I was pregnant and had called my OBGYN who stated no in the first trimester. They both stated they would be more comfortable after my first trimester. I just want to know, hear and get as much information as I can to make a decision.

I appreciate everyone's input. It is nice to see what others have been through or how they feel.
