I have suffered with a painful neck intermittently for a few years and over the last 8-9 months have been experiencing constant pain in my shoulder and down my left arm which at times can seriously restrict movement.
I have been x-rayed and they have found a posterior osteophyte at c4/5 with slight reduction in disc height at c4/5 and c5/6, loss of cervical lordosis and bilateral cervical ribs (which I believe are probably nothing to do with the pain).
My doctor has said it's not worth having an MRI - long waiting lists and even if they can pinpoint the problem, surgery isn't necessary unless I was suffering with chronic pain.
So, I have to keep on taking anti-inflammatories indefinitely and go to physio.
Can physiotherapy really work ?
Do these conditions ever improve or am I likely to have this all my life ? (I am now 40 years old). Is it likely to get worse ?
Anyone who has this condition - I would really like to hear your stories. Any suggestions about useful exersizes ?
