I had a microdiscetomy about a month ago at L5/S1.No real problems so far,but today I noticed I have a lump about the size of half a golf ball above the incision scar.Doesn't appear to be painful to the touch but nonetheless is quite sizeable.Anyone else experienced this or can shed any light on what it might be?

  • I would see your Dr about this. I haven't had surgery though but if it's not going away your Dr. may be able to help. Charry
DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN
  • I had one the size of a golf ball after my surgery, but it went down after 5 or 6 weeks. I had a lami, and foratomony at L5 S1 5 months ago, and I still have some swelling left, but the golf ball is gone. The surgeon said it was a fluid pocked, and would disolve, and it did, but you really need to see your Dr. I DID! sweetpotatoe57
  • I'll book in with my Doctor first thing in the morning.
  • Any news on the lump above the incision site? I had a lumbar microdiscetomy two weeks ago and have the same dilema. Although my "lump" is painful to touch. I've got an ice pak on it now.
  • I had a four level fusion with all the fun stuff and I had the same lump. My doc said it would go down and after about six weeks it did. I am now 8 weeks out, the spot is still tender but the lump is gone. Hopefully after you get it checked you will find it is the same sort of thing.
