Had a fall - Don't know what to make of this

I haven't been here for a while, apologies. I have been trying hard to focus NOT on my back!

OK, to the point.
My story
2007 Dynesys + 1 level PLIF
2008 2nd Level PLIF
Lots of ongoing post op pain. Thought I was going mad.
Aug 2008 - interbody cage found in spinal canal
Sept 2008 - removal & decompression
Sept - May - no significant change to pre-suregry symptoms.(back & leg pain / numbness, unsteady)
I got a brace in May. Helps with spasms. Lovely!

Then I fell in bath. Square on my coccyx. Was expecting a big ouch but....

My back pain has quietened down (not gone but more bearable) and LEG pain OMG! My leg buttocks, thigh, outer calf, top of foot (L5 / s1 pattern) pain is like nothing I have experieneced before. Feels crampy, tight, brings tears to my yes when I move leg, I limp and struggle to weight bear at times. Toe burns and pulses! When I go to loo, my buttock goes numb / tingles in a line pattern and when I open my bowels my whole leg pins/needles along the L5 root path.

Here is my question. Do you reckon this is all a good thing - that perhaps my damaged nerve is waking up? Has anyone else experienced similar on a road to recovery?

Its kind of weird. I do have a follow up next week.

Thanks for reading!

  • IMO, you should call the doctor right away and tell them what happened, and what you are experiencing. It's not a good idea to ignore a sudden flare caused by a fall.

I hope you feel better, and all goes well with your appointment! Take care, and keep up posted.

  • was simply becos the pain in back quietened down and I never got the ouch pain I expected from the back.

Thinking about it though and reading it through my post here, I did get a leg ouch!

    I can't beleive how stupid I am.
  • Sorry for your fall. I agree that since your leg hurts so much you should call the doc. The symptoms you are describing are enough to have an ER visit, in my opinion. Good luck

Surviving chronic pain one day at a time, praying for a reprieve because living another 40 years like this doesn't sound too fun!
  • I hope you're feeling better and glad you have an appt. with your Dr. I hope everything is okay. I don't see how you call yourself stupid because you're not. Accidents happen just hope everything is alright. Charry
