Anyone with hand numbness, pain with lower back issues???

I had a microdisc. 2 years ago for a hern. disc. I did actually make an appt with my neuro to talk. I do type alot for work but I've noticed some odd symptoms that I'm not sure are related.

I've noticed hand, arm weakness, pain at different times. Like maybe I could drop a drink or something. Also, my pinkie and the ring finger on my right side like cramp or something spasm maybe.

I am heading back in to the dr because of TERRIBLE stiffness that I just can't shake. I haven't been in since the post op appt.

Also, I've noticed on the right leg sometimes it seems like it wants to cramp but doesn't just the initial feeling. Both feet on the bottom at times (not all the time) can feel numb? I have no idea. Would scar tissue cause those kind of symptoms? I looked up capel tunnel and I don't really "fit" the symptoms.....

Thanks in advance!

  • hi...my name is pete. i too had surgery and was left with some symptoms similar to if not worse than yours. it is certainly possible that your spine now has some new problems caused by pressure on the nerves. you certainly need to see a specialist and have some scans made to determine the source of the problem. hopefully it is something that some conservative therapy will cure. by the way, what level of your spine was operated on?
keep us informed and best of luck... >:D<
  • Hello:
first post here, my question is similar to tabbies. Had L-4,L-5 fusion with PLIF? 2-Rods for Spodolothesis, 14 days ago. having lots of post-op problems, but my big question is why my left hand will suddenly cramp, to the point where I have to pull my left thumb out because the cramp is so bad. This happened several times prior to surgery and now is happening more often. Spoke with my surgeon today, after staple removal, and he insists it will clear up after they do my cervical surgery. Didn't know I was going to have more? After more questions from me he blamed it on DDD, which I have had for at least 10 years. I just do not understand why this would just start happening, my only passion left in the world is playing my guitar and banjo, any one have any ideas?
    Thanks very much!
  • Yes, back in April, there were some issues with 4 bulging discs in Cervical MRI, but said that it wasn't a big issue compared to L4&L5. The impression I got was that it was all due to the arthritic problems. Think I will start tape recording my visits, for my purposes! Thanks for your comment!
  • Hi Pete. I know this is terrible but I think it was L5 ish area. That sounds the most familiar. I'm 33, I walked around for 3 months thinking I picked up one of my boys wrong and pulled a muscle. When I had the MRI they called me 3 hours after and said it was HUGE and that I needed to see a neuro. I tried steroids and it was no help. Plus, they made me crazy. I opted for surgery. It did fix the leg pain and sciatica right away but recently have had some "odd" symptoms at least for me anyway. I have an appt on the 16th of this month so I'm pretty interested to see what they have to say. I know I won't ever be the same so to speak but I figure it's best to get it checked out.

Good luck to you as well!
  • hope youre having a better day. i think bubblegum may be thinking in the right direction. it sounds like something in the neck area. it could be a whole new problem. let's see what dr says. by the way it's a good idea to get a few opinions.
i hope just some physical therapy will help...wishing you luck....pete
