so what are the percentages of my steel rod breaking, my surgery was July 31,2008, can my rod break or slip, can i die if it breaks, idk?!

  • Hello Katie, and welcome! I guess a little background is in order! Why are you asking this question, are you having increased pain, or weird "feelings" around the site? If so, you should probably call your doctor as soon as possible and let them know.

    Good luck!
  • Prior to my surgery, my surgeon told me I had a small chance of having a broken rod, but he said these do not generally cause too much of a problem and are usually left as is. If it causes a problem, the rod can be removed after fusion has taken place, at which time the rods are actually no longer needed. He said that my fused spine will be stronger than the rods.
