Back Surgery Issues

I recently had a microdiscectomy because I had severe back pain and leg numbness. The surgery went well but unfortunately I was still in pain, even weeks later. I went to the doctor and was told I had a seroma over the surgical site(a sac of fluid), in my case it was actually very painful and she ended up removing 100 units of fluid off of my spine. I came back a few days later and she removed 60 more units. I went to see her last Friday and I found out that I re-herniated the disc (small herniation) and now she wants to go in, put a drain, and remove the herniation. I am so frustrated, scared, and upset about the possibility of having to do this that I don't know what to do. I am frustrated because I have been in severe pain for 2 years and not able to do anything and I'm only 20, scared because I'm afraid of being put to sleep again, and upset because I really don't know what do to anymore. Please help, I don't have anyone else that I can talk to.

  • that is so unfortunate that you are having these complications. they tell you before surgery that there is a 5% chance of something going wrong.
i had that happen to me on my last surgery. all you can do is take one day at a time and follow their directions. they will go in again and fix things up. it's only natural to be frightened.
you have come to the right place for understanding. you will find a lot of us here who have gone through troubles. a lot of folks at sh will be responding and offering support. you will meet people and you may even make some friends here. feel good that we understand and you wont be alone when they go back in and fix things up. youre young and strong and you have your whole life ahead of you. things will work out
    best to you...pete

I am sorry that your surgery did not go well. I also was a failed micro on lower lumbar. My disc did re-
herniate around the third week and I had a return trip to the operating room. The redo was a success and I am glad that I decided to let them operate again. I can imagine the frustration you are having but you must concentrate on getting yourself better. Good luck
