Question on Possible Infection

I am hoping someone out there may be able to shine some light on this for me. I had to have dental work done and I took the antibiotics before the procedure however 2 days later I developed a gum infection and went back to the dentist and they gave me another prescription for antibiotics and said it was an infection of the gum tissue. I am about 90 days post 3-level lumbar fusion and had been feeling great but now in just the last two days have started having pain I have not had before and both knees are killing me and am having unusual back pain along with just not feeling good. My question is how would I know if the infection has possibly spread to the hardware in my back? Has anyone been here? Am I worrying about nothing? I hope so! :)
