Pars defect L5 S1

AnonymousUserAAnonymousUser Posts: 49,671
Where do I start. Ok here goes. I have had lower back pain ever since i feel off my bike when I was 14, i landed on my back and felt this nerve pain Sciatica run down my right side it was so painfull I could not move. This was in 1959 so they did not have that many specialists in those days.
I will try and make this story as short as possible, in 2004 I could not stand the pain anymore, went to a doctor in westwood he told me I had a par's defect that i would have to go on permanent disability. I went to a doctor who did a 360 on me, fused the L5 S1 6 months later i had a revision, then in 2005 went to another (good doctor) in the Marina del rey, he took the metal out of the L5, and went up a level and fused the L4, while in the hospital recoperating the dr. told me i had a infection and they put me on cypro which is very strong, I went home with a pic line 10 days later I had such server pain in my back and lower right leg that i did not sleep for 3 days, went back to same doctor had a MRI and they found out that they put one of the screws right on my nerve, 7 months later i was still in bad pain, went to a another doctor Neurosurgeon, he took the metal out from the L4 then 15 days later another infection, he went back in cleaned it up and was sent on my way, my pain managment dr. had me go into a hyperberic chamber for 5 wks, the infection finally healed.

As of today I have server nerve pain still, I can feel the nerve it is in my right butt cheek and runs down the outside of my leg into my foot. I went to another orthopedic doctor supposed to be the best in L.A. and had a very good MRI done he told me that i had so much tissue and nerve damage that having another surgery would not help. I take 120mpg of oxycotton 600 mpg of Neuronton, I know its the never it is just so depressing that not one doctor in this world cannot help. We can put a man into space, spend billions on space research but cannot train doctors to find nerve damage. I take sleeping pills 10mpg ambien to sleep, I still feel that their is a doctor out their than can help me. I have great insurance but just do not know who to see. should i go to a neurosurgeon. I go to a pain management doctor and I am going to get a spinal cord stimulation SCS therapy, should know this week, my lower back really hurts the most when i sit more than 30min in a chair, has anybody else have any problems like this, please forgive my spelling, i guess iam just to lazy. oh yes I have had 8 eperderals over the past 5 yrs. Please someone can you please help. thank you for reading this.

  • Hi,

Chronic pain is so all-consuming, very depressing. I don't blame you for being so angry and frustrated. I would certainly see a neurosurgeon for another opinion. My neurosurgeon is very compassionate and supportive. Being here will be good medicine for you too. You need lots of support from those who understand what you are going through. Come visit us in the chat room too.

    Best wishes to you,

  • your story is very disappointing. so many procedures and so much pain. you and i are the same. my drs said no more surgery nothing can help. youve found a bunch of pain people who understand. what kinds of activities are you doing to try to fend off the pain...by the way the scs people say that lower back pain isnt usually helped with scs but you will find out during trial. hope it works. keep us posted and stay in touch....best to you....pete
