Vitamins before Spinal Fusion?

I was just scheduled to have a L4/5 Trans lumbar interbody fusion in a little over a month. I will be donating blood to myself as well. I know that you have to stop taking asprin and vit E, but what are the vitamins that one SHOULD take prior? for how long prior? should I start now?

I have a call into the doctor but wanted to get started ASAP.

  • I was told to take vitamin D, fish oil as well as calcium and keep up on your protein. I have been taking good multi-vitamins, vitamin D and fish oil pills for a number of months. I added the calcium about a month prior to surgery.

I have no idea of the impact but so far my recovery is remarkable. I also tried to workout as much as I could before surgery since I can't do too much due to the constraints placed on people postop to allow the fusion process to happen.

    Good luck
