  • Hi there,

I have cervical DDD (C3-C7)also, however, this is the least of my worries right now. First I have to take care of a needed 2 level lumbar fusion directly below my 2003 fusion. I pretty much have DDD all over my spine. I am "much older" than you (I'm 43) however, you will find on this site that we all have so much in common that age is not an issue.
This is a fantastic site for any questions you may have, or if you just want to chat with others who are going through what you are.
  • oh wow. yeah i have DDD pretty much everywhere...but its the worst in my neck. i also have 2 rotated discs in my lumbar region...and a "kink" in the thoratic region. i cant remember which ones exactly...i really need to go to the dr again, its been wayyy too long.
so was there anything that has caused your back injuries? good luck!
  • Hi! I, too, was diagnosed at a young age. I was 17 when I found out my neck was degenerating. I am now 33...4 yrs. ago I had a fusion of three of the discs, with plate & screw fixation, because the discs were pushing on my spinal cord & could've made me paralyzed. For that reason, I don't regret the surgery, but I wish I hadn't had the plate & screws put in as they bother me more than they do most people & I'm in alot more pain now than ever before. I had c3 thru c6 done & now I need to have c3-c4 done & some bone spurs (osteophytes) removed.
When I asked one dr. why this was happening to me at such a young age he said," The only thing I can think to say to help you understand is that where as most people were given Michelin's - you were given Firestone's & you are just breaking down a lot faster than you are supposed to."
But, if you ever consider surgery - you should look into LSI which does minimally evasive laser spine surgery that you heal from much faster, with much better results. I wish I had known about this option when I got mine done.
  • im in the same boat as you yall... i got DDD young also...
