I wanted to possibly give some neck pain sufferers some encouragement.
In early 2007 I was experiencing excruciating pain in my neck that went down my right arm to my fingers. I couldnt find a comfortable position to sit in ever, I wasnt sleeping and was in constant agony.
After having an MRI performed and finding a recommended neurosurgeon in our area, he told me that my disc was so bulged and pushing on my spinal cord so severely that should I fall or have an accident I could potentially sever my spinal cord. Very scary and very upsetting to me and my family.
I had an anterior cervical disectomy in August of 2007...the recovery period for me was a very hard month and progressing since then. My ability to swallow was very difficult for me initially and I relied on pain med's for a good while. I did have some reoccuring numbness down my arm...it was explained to me that my nerve's were readjusting and that was considered a normal thing after this surgery. But I tell you what.the pain and numbness in my neck after surgery was like night and day. The recovery period was hard for me but so worth it in the end.
I am happy to tell you all that it is 2009 and I am completely pain free of any of the neck pain I was suffering before and absolutley no numbness or pain down my arms at all. My neck still will get stiff but that's about it. I recently suffered a back injury and am looking at possible back surgery...(of all the dumb luck!) BUT prior to that I was back at my aerobic kickboxing class about 3 months after surgery and never looked back.
I believe the key is a neurosurgeon you can trust and who has faith in treating you.
I hope that anyone that is suffering from neck pain finds a quick and reliable way to end your misery. I emphatize competley and hope that maybe my story perhaps gives someone continued hope for a happy ending as well!
