I am very thankful

I'm very thankful that I googled and found this website. Years ago before my hysterectomy I found a website that proved to be very helpful and a good support group for me to go to. Now that I've been in terrible pain for about a month, and finding out that I have bulging on the C6 & c7 discs, I've found another website with forums to hopefully help me get through this. I'm to see my Neurologist this coming thursday and was told verbally over the phone that the neuro surgeon thinks I need surgery and he's sending me to this neurologist to see if he agrees. I'm scared, I'm shocked that surgery was mentioned first, and not after therapy. I'm concerned that the doctor might be jumping the gun a little. Anyways, until then, I'm sitting here with severe pain in the left shoulder blade, shoulder, neck and going down the left arm into the hand. I've been on Percuset now for a month, and am afraid that I will get addicted to it. (I hate taking meds). So thanks "spine-health" for providing me with a new support group.

  • Hi Patti,

I'm new here and this is my first post. I understand you being very scared about surgery. I'm not sure how they can determine that over the phone, I suppose they reviewed your MRI. I would really love for a doctor to tell me surgery would help at this point as I can't find one that will do surgery.

I would get another opinion from another doctor that is not a referral from the one your using now just in case.

I used to worry about pain med addicition too and now i'm on a pain patch so I don't do the "pill thing" anymore. I still have much pain though which I figure will never go away at this point.

I wish you the best and be sure to get another opinion before doing surgery. Sending good vibes your way!

  • Thanks PP, I appreciate the good vibes. I'm sorry that you too have pain that requires you wear a patch. Why is it that you figure the pain will never go away?
  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. we are so glad you stopped by for info and friendship. :D just relax and make sure you get more than one opinion for surgery. after that, a diagnosis, you can make your plan for recovery. =D> good luck and keep us informed! :D hugsss, >:D< >:D< Jenny :)
  • Hi Patti,

You've come to a great site for support and sharing. I would request all the conservative treatments first, i.e. physical therapy. Many insurance companies require this before surgery unless its an emergency. I was scared before my surgery, but after 3 months of recovery, there are days I forget I had it done.

    Best wishes to you,

  • Please remember to always get 3 opinions before agreeing to any surgery. I understand your fear of becoming addicted to the meds but just the fact that you hate to take them probably makes that possibility very slim. Good luck and do keep us posted.
