Post-op spasm blues...

I'm nearly 5 weeks out from sacroiliac joint fusion surgery and have started pt, but I am really pushing through some terrible multifidus spasms at the lumbosacral junction on the side of the fusion. I know this is very normal, but wow, this is painful. I take a muscle relaxer prn that takes the edge off, and I'm slapping my TENS unit on there but was hoping you guys might have some more ideas. I'm hoping as the pt gets going and I re-strengthen this will resolve, but in the meantime is there anything else to try? Do you think ultrasound over the area would make any difference? Any idea how long post surgical spasms typically last?

Haha, if I could only bend and stretch everything out :)
