2weeks postop and fell in shower

One of my post op fears happened this morning. I fell right on my back this morning in the shower. I'm just 2 weeks post op plif l4-l5. My husband rushed me to the er where they gave me a couple of pain shots
because I was in a whole lot of pain and they did x rays and said my hardware looked fine and my incision looked great. I'm home and my back is more sore than before and I'm having spasms again. I follow up with the doc in two days. I hope the bone graft is okay and i hope this doesn't effect my recovery time. I was trying to cut downon my meds but I don't see that happening now. I can't believe this happened. All cause I dropped the soap. Has anyone had an accident post op and did it effect their recovery time. Could this effect the bone that's fusing? I'm really worried now.

  • The important thing is that the X-ray indicated that the hardware is still in its proper place. If nothing jumped out on the X-ray, things are probably OK. It probably is too early to tell what's going on with the fusion but your surgeon will be able to answer all your questions in a couple days.

You will find that your balance will be a little off after having this surgery. Even when you start feeling a bit better, it is very important to be extra careful. I find I'm just a little slower in being about to "right" myself if I slip or trip over something...and just that little lapse is enough to cause a fall.

Don't be in a hurry to get off your pain meds. There is not a time table for your recovery and there are no awards for who gets off pain meds the quickest. You will ultimately heal better and more quickly if your body does not have to deal with pain, too.

Hope the soreness goes away quickly and you are back on your path to a smooth recovery.

Do you have a shower chair or bench? If not, it would be a good idea to get one.

    Hang in there!
