Hi Everyone, Thanks for all your thoughts, prayers, and private PMs. They were very much appreciated.
I was expecting a rather short and insignificant surgery two weeks when I checked into my short-stay surgery. Upon waking up I had a surprise. Apparently one of the screws had attached intself to my dural sac and when they were tugging at the screw, it made a rip in the sac. Fluid was lost and I was told I'd me flat in bed for 5 days, to make sure the patch they installed had time to heal. So much for a one day stay.
The headaches were/are pretty bad and I was/am never able to get comfy in bed. They wanted to keep me there longer incase I needed more surgery to re-patch the sac. I asked if we couldn't watch from home instead, so they released me afte 8 days.
It is so nice to be home again. Although I am unable to reach an acceptable level of pain control, and I can't sit or lay down flat. My question is if that's normal at 12 days post op? The only comfy position in bed is on my side with a pillow between my knees. Sitting is almost impossible in a chair. Right now I'm sitting at the side of my bed.
My other question is the back still swollen at 12 days? The inicison is not red, just seems swollen and hursts when I lay on it. You'd think I'd remember all this from last February when I had the fusion.
Thanks upfront for your answers.
