hello. i am 37 years old and woke up one morning this past summer with a sore lower back - no previous history of back pain at all. It would be really bad in the morning, especially when sitting (driving into work) and start to feel better as I moved around. No pain in the extremities. The pain would fluctuate between the left and right sides of the spine but not too far to either side. The pain has also fluctuated in intensity but has never gone away. Usually when I go hiking it gets aggravated.
Anyway, I went to my GP and he ordered an X-ray. The X-ray showed just an osteophyte (bone spur) in the area of pain....nothing else. He said I should try PT before he ordered a MRI or anything else.
I have been doing PT exercises for about three weeks along with the treatments they have been administering at their office (like ultrasound and electrical muscle stimulation.) My condition hasn't gotten any better. My last visit they did lumbar traction and now I have even worse pain and some numbness/weakness in my legs and heel.
At this point I think it might be more serious than just a bone spur?
