Hey y'all! I am looking everywhere for information about one of the many procedures I have had done (post op.). The one I am having trouble locating info on has the abbreviation called a PLA. When I was having my last procedure done under conscious sedation, I have a brief memory of looking at the screen of the X-ray and seeing a white line above my spine. I was told it is a catheter that is supposed to loosen the scar tissue. I don't understand how this works or why I had no (noticeable) puncture wounds on my lumbar spine. I have also had facets. My pain management doctor doesn't explain anything and when I do see him for a follow up, I see him for 1 minute max. HELP! Enlighten me please!

  • I am sorry to hear that you seem to have a doc that dies not like to do explanations.

You may need to take control of your care. Write down a list of questions before your next visit. Let the doc know right away (as soon as he enters the room) that you have questions about your care that you need answers to (you are entitled to this).

Do not be intimidated by him. He works for you.

I have heard of this procedure but I do not know much about it.

Have you tried searching "spinal scar tissue removal"?

Good luck and please keep us posted.
  • PLA stands for Percutaneous Laser Ablation

Basically a laser is passed through a catheter and used to burn off and remove tissue from different areas of the body.

Many doctors are bad communicators, however that doesn't mean that they are bad doctors. As suggested, a list of questions taken with you to your appointment can help tremendously.
