Hi Fewllow Spineys,
Today was my first appointment (12 days out) from my 2 level ALIF (L4-S1). I am doing great! My surgeon could not be happier with my progress. I am walking like you wouldn't know I had surgery (after I get the stiffness out). NO back pain, just a bit of slow going if sitting or laying too long.
Unfortunately, I have the darn brace to wear, but my Dr. wants to be as conservative as possible to ensure the best outcome possible. Three months seems long, but in the great scheme of things, its nothing.
I wish I did this sooner, all that time of suffering when I didn't need to.
It was amazing to see my x-ray. My old fusion 0f L2-L4 was just supported with rods and screws, you can see whats left of the disintegrated discs.
In the below (new) fusion, L4-S1, there are cages in the spaces of the discs and a plate. It looks like a natural curve and "real" spaces between the vertebrae. What a difference 7 years makes. Oh, yeah, did I mention that my back pain is virtually gone?!
Wishing you all less pain and calmness during the upcoming holiday craziness.
Anyway, if anyone is on the fence about this surgery, you've got my good story, but of course, listen to your Dr. recommendations.
