I have been notified recently about specific members posting various URL Links (some Yourtube) for other members to look at.
Take Spine-Health out of the picture for a second and lets talk about passing URL's and opening them.
I have been around main frames, personal computers, internet and various online services for a long time. I have seen many different destructive actions that appeared innocent and have rebuild 1000's of computers once they were infected.
As a rule:
- Never accept, read, view ANY email, attachment, url link from anyone that you do not now.
- Be very careful doing any of the above even from someone you do know. Chain email letters with multiple attachments even from safe members can contain hidden problems.
- Never respond YES, OK to pop-ups that you are not sure of and from those pop-ups that claim your computer is infected with a virus or will check your computer for problems.
- Never open a URL Link passed in an online interactive application (ie Yahoo Chat, Spine-Health Chat, etc)
While some of the above items can be safe and not create any problems, to me it is not worth the chance. On all of my home computers, I have filters on all the various email software we use that rejects chain letter type of email and puts any email with an attachment on hold. I then can transfer any of those type of emails to a test machine I have, which I can later review off the Internet or my home network.
Now back to Spine-Health. I encourage EVERYONE NOT to open URL links passed by members. Recently we have seen some of these actions which then caused problems for the receiving member.
I am in the process of going through several weeks of CHAT logs to find specifics. While posting URL links is not
a violation, passing URL links that are intended to cause a problem is much more than a Spine-Health violation. Internet fraud is a serious violation and formal agencies can be brought in to investigate problems.
So, for the sake of keeping the CHAT room safe..
1 - Do NOT Post URL Links in CHAT
2 - If someone does, DO NOT OPEN it and please report that member to one of the Moderators
