Eight months ago my 13 year old and I were in a car accident. We both had shoulder injuries. Her MRI showed some fluid. SHe did PT for about a month and seemed fine.
Two weeks ago she had pain in her ear. I thought an ear infection but the ENT said it was TMJ. We went to the dentist and orthodontist to rule out dental problems. THey said the teeth and bite were fine. Went to another ENT who prescribed a medrol pack to bring down swelling. So far nothing is helping.
She says the pain is from her left ear and goes up into her head and down her neck into her arm. Same one as accident.
My lawyer's office asked if this could be from the accident.
Here are my questions
Anyone have experience with teens & neck injury?
Anyone with TMJ - does this sound right
Has anyone had a 6-8 month delay in pain onset?
I know the pain sounds like a neck herniation. I am terrified that she has problems similar to mine but I guess it would make sense. My ortho told me months ago that kids don't get injured like adults because they are still pliable but is 12-13 that young? I am also wondering if she is pretending to have pains like mine to get sympathy. How can I tell if it is real?
My lawyer suggested an ortho who specializes in head injury. Has anyone dealt with something like this for a child or an adult?
ANy info or suggestions is much appreciated.
