Pain relief with Cymbalta

Can anyone comment on their experience with relief of sciatic pain while on Cymbalta. Interested in knowing any other side effects. Did it lift your spirit and then perhaps you didn't feel the pain as much?

  • works great for nerve pain and as an antidepressent. It did work well for both with me but it does have some side effects.

I felt kind of out of it while taking this med. Also it is very hard to come off of it if you decide to. Dizziness and a general feeling of spaciness were the main side effects for me.

If you ever stop taking it you must go very slow. You will feel achy and sort of flu like symptoms.

That being said it may be worth trying. Not everyone has those side effects and it may be work well for you.

    Good luck.
  • Covers it pretty well. For some people it is the best med they have ever tried, for others, not so much.

In my experience, if you try it and it works, great.
If you try it and it does not, I would not stay on it to long or keep pushing the dose higher.

As J.J. says stopping Cymbalta has to be done slowly and carefully. For some people it is easy, for others it can be a very long process.

As with every med we try, there are risks and rewards. No one can say for sure how it will work for you.

(my experience after trying it twice, it does not work for me)
  • My experience with Cymbalta was not a nice one. I took it for several months and started having urinary retention problems. As this got more persistent I suddenly developed terrible nightmares that turned into waking nightmares. To this day there are images I cannot get out of my head. I stopped taking it on the spot and this all cleared very quickly.

  • I found good relief from leg pain and numbness with Cymbalta. Lyrica helped a little but I had gained 35 lbs. on it which I have since lost. I feel more positive also so I guess it's working as an anti-depressant also. Good luck and hope it works for you. Charry

  • Have to say that Cymbalta worked for me after surgery #2, but it did leave me very tired and I also put on weight. I stopped taking it after a month or so due to the increased sleepy all day feeling. Again drugs work differently for everyone, what works for one may not work for another. Good Luck.
