before surg constant leg cramp elect sock pain in leg & low back
7to 99 on scale after serg
low back pain 2 to 4 has never gone away numb heal & back of leg, constant
pinching feeling or like a rock inside lower back
first 3 month did real well thin some of the ice picking pain came back
but not all the time mostly when driving or sitting the jabbing or stun gun
starts some times the little guy in there just pokes little bit an gets the muscles to tighten up
and start spazin out went back to nero serg to day he say its normal just takes time to heal
the nerves are waking up and muscles are week. Really getting tired of hurting
or driving more than 30 min or working in yard or throwing baseball 2 or 3 times with the kids
and paying for it for the next 3 or 5 days. is it time to see a deferent doc or is it jest
normal and im just in a hurry

  • HI JOhn

SOrry to hear you are in pain still. WHat else did they do? Fusion?

I had a micro-d at t1/2 and didn't need any thing to stablize because of the location. But usually they do something.

Did the doc do any imaging? MRI, CT or even x-rays?If not you might want to talk to a neurologist.
  • hi John,it does take time for those nerves to get back to normal---are you on a pain med regimen?
  • I had a microdiscectomy...I would say if you are getting NEW symptoms or old ones returning, it may be time to speak to your doctor and tell him. He may want to do another MRI to make sure you haven't reherniated.

Back surgery does take time to recover from.
I know I was told that after microdiscectomy it could take 3-6 months to really feel close to normal again but not to expect to be able to drive long distances without adjusting my seat every 15 mins and getting out to move around every 30-60 mins.

But if you are having old symptoms return, I'd contact the doctor. I assume microdiscectomy is the minimally invasive procedure to remove the portion of herniated disc pressing on the nerve.

    I hope this helps.
  • Yes micro-d minimally invasive -I was in hospital less than 13 hr from chk in to rolling in car to go home. Yes I went to doc yesterday he say its normal –it jist seams like a long time to me I though I would be a lot better by now he said since I can stand on my toes and heals I should be on track. before serg he was saying 6 to 8 weeks
But before surg I was dieing I had back pain but the leg pain was so bad I did not care about my back. I drive heavy equip for work so stopping every 15 –30 min does not get
It. Before surg had mri show 8-or 10 mm rupture with nerve imp I waited till pain went around groin & leg went kind of numb (maybe to much nerottin ) before I would let them cut on me . looking back I would have did it way sooner like on day one.
I jist would like to no if this is as good as it is goin to get I could maybe do a deferent job and stock up on ib & vicodin
  • I had decompression surgery in 08 and it didn't help me and I went back to my neurosurgeon, who then referred me to another one. I then got a third opinion and went with what he recommended.

Perhaps you could see another doctor and get a revision MRI or CT scan done. Depending on that opinion, you could be referred to a pain specialist. I would ask the doctor about your job and see what he says.

Hope you can get some good pain relief soon.

  • I had a microdiscectomy in December 07, but continued to have pain. The pain became worse and I actually had to yell at my doc for him to take me seriously! They thought I was drug seeking. i got another MRI witch didn't show much of a change. I went back to the neurosurgeon and begged her to operate again. The symptoms I was having were way worse than before the discecotomy. She reluctantly agreed and when they opened me up they found that a fragment had broken loose and was pushing on the nerve. the fragment never showed on the MRI. Having the revision helped some, but I continued to have pain and am now going in for a 2 level fusion. The fact is that you know your own body and just because you may not fall into what is typical doesn't make it any less real. Living in pain is a nightmare and no one can understand that unless they have been there. Seek out a doc that will listen and respect you for knowing yourself. Best of luck!
