When is it more then just Back Pain?

araineaaraine Posts: 151
For several years now I have been dealing with off and on back and neck pain. Sometimes tolerable, sometimes debilitating. After effects from many meds, stress, and lack of health insurance has taken it's toll. I have seen multiple doctors over the years about my lower back, being as painful as it can get, I swear I had been having sciatica pains. After catscans, MRI's, and different specialists, come to find out...I actually have Irritable Bowl Syndrome with the Vasil Vegal reaction, meaning, my body thinks I am in more pain then I really am. With constant bathroom trips to nearly passing out from the pain, I was sure there was seriously something wrong with my back and it was caused by the medications. I just wanted to give an FYI post for others with lower back pain, to make sure that the back is the only source of problems. I have herniations in my thoracic as well as reverse curvature of the neck, and the last thing I needed was a chronic illness on top of it. Thanks!

  • Amber, Sorry to hear you've got another medical issue. Are there meds for IBS? How's the little one doing?

    You are so correct.
People can have one spinal problem (upper/middle/lower) and that can be treated. But whenever we are subject to some of those problems, there are good chances some other part of our body might start to fail.

So its always good to fully understand what you have and how one problem may impact another part

  • I am not sure if the meds caused this, but I first thought all of my stomach problems was from side effects from my constant meds. But, I had been off the meds for so long, and things started getting worse. There are medications to help with symptoms, but there is no cure for IBS. It is an uncomfortable chronic disease that I will have to learn to deal with. It just stinks that all this time, I thought it was mostly my back. It would not hurt for people to ask their doctors if being on strong meds would activate irritable bowl diseases. Stress also can exaserbate these issues.
