Cymbalta for Sciatica???

dj33469dj33469 Posts: 18
I have Spinal Stenosis, Sciatica, facet Hypertrophy, bulging discs and I am so sick of the somas, and xanxa, and oxycodone that the doctor gives me. I am the type of person who likes to have full controll over my mind and im am still young. 21. I asked my doctor if there was anything else i could try, and he said to try cymbalta. It is very expensive, so i hesitate with getting it, but if it gets the job done then there is no question about it. I will definantly take it. At the moment i already spend a little over 600 a month, so if i can take less meds, and the cymbalta then i would do it in a heart beat. My Question is, Does anyone have any experience with taking cymbalta for Sciatica? because this stuff is expensive. I filled a weeks worth, and it was almost 70 bucks.

  • I take Cymbalta and it does help my leg pain and tingling somewhat significantly but not completely. Have you had any epidurals(Caudal) yet? They helped somewhat also. Hope the meds help you and you're feeling less pain soon. Charry

It messed with my mind and had many bad side effects for me. It did help the pain but the bad far outweighed the good. Look it up on askapatient.com/ratings
    Good luck,Jim

  • Hi I have been using this for about seven months now. At first I swore by it. I upped my dose gradually and am now on 80mg 40mg twice a day. It is less effective now than it was and is having hugely detrimental effects upon my mood. Plus heres the double wammy tring to get off it is hideous truly hideous.

As with all drugs you have to get good advice and do the research. It may be really good for you or not?
  • I got a heavy promotion at work @ 2 1\2 years ago. You don't need the specifics, but went to see DR for help. I told my DR I felt overwhelmed(actually told him I felt like somebody stuck a rocket up my butt and lit it). He thought it funny that an uneducated factory worker less than 40 could be as stressed as him. Anyway, he said he took it told me to try and said it might help with the back also(I had my first true back episode just prior to this.). I was disappointed on all fronts, plus it was a prior approval drug(extra prob). Quit takings it and could actually tell how much it was effecting my life(negative IMO). Now I take Lyrica, and I do believe it may help. In fact I would like to up my dose another 75mg to the 300 max.I have great insurance, but they hate approving new expensive drugs. My DR loads me up with samples if we are gonna have to beg the insurance folks to start paying. Most Dr's have a room full of samples and I have always had great results asking for samples. In fact I have run out of samples before authorization and just call my DR and he has a bag of sample packs waiting at the desk, by the time I get there.

  • ...Cymbalta didn't do a damn thing for me. I took it for about 6 months, and was up to 60MG a day.
    I've stopped taking it.
  • Cybalta caused some pretty severe side effects when my doc tried me on it. Read the label, I had it; mood swings, dysphoria, nightmares, disturbed sleep patterns. It was without a doubt the worst drug I've ever taken. Ditto for Lyrica. I manage my pain for C5/6/7 ACDF with Peeks with plain percocet (plain, not the kind with Tylenol), ibuprofen, and 100 mg Zoloft. Oxycodone knocks the worst pain down in about 30 minutes.

No drug is without side effects. I worry less about the side effects of the narcotic than the psychoactive drugs. If you have bad results with Cymbalta, make your doc aware of it.

C5/6/7 ACDF thanks to a careless Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor. Not pain free, but stabilized.
To get the best results from a spinal injury, a patient should listen to their doctor, and the doctor should listen 10 times as hard to the patient.
