My doctors told me previously that because of the complexities of my issues and the amount of hardware I have, I was not a candidate for an SCS. Needless to say, I am so happy I am that they have now changed their minds and I am waiting for approval from WC to have the trial done. I've been researching for months and while I know this is a long shot, I am hopeful that it may give me some relief.
Questions for those of you who have SCS for your neck issues...
1) Do you get coverage into your legs and feet?
2) Do you get coverage down one arm, or both?
3) Does it help with muscle spasms in your neck/shoulders?
4) Does it help with headaches?
Less important but still concerning, how do you wash your hair while you have the trial? I can't imagine going a full week without showering, and if I don't wash my hair every day... well, I will be a scary sight. I would think it would be okay to sit in a few inches of water in the bathtub to get clean, as long as I don't get the incision wet, you can't sponge bath your hair, lol.
My doctor isn't certain that he can even get the leads in, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Also my issues are c-spine generated, but my hip/leg/foot gives me almost as much pain as my neck area. I know I won't get complete coverage. But there is a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to have a small part of the old me back.
I'd appreciate hearing of your experiences. I will be doing the psych evaluation soon and then on to the trial (if WC ever gets this thing approved). Did ya'll know an SCS is upwards of $80,000? No wonder the insurance company is dragging their feet with an approval.
Surviving chronic pain one day at a time, praying for a reprieve because living another 40 years like this doesn't sound too fun!
