Hi I am a 32 year old Mother of 2. In 2006 I was diagnosed with DDD after having an emergency Laminectomy and Discectomy. Since my first surgery, I have received several injections, prescription drugs, accupuncture, pain management, chiropractor visits, etc...but nothing has relieved my pain. About a month ago I started having incredible headaches that just wouldn't end. No meds take the pain away and I have been to the ER twice. I was told that I have bulging disks in my neck, but no nerve impingement. I am so frustrated because it seems as if no one believes how much pain I am in. Any suggestions?? I feel as if my quality of life has gone down drasticially. Has anyone experienced this kind of pain?\

  • We hear that complain more often than any of us would like. Some surgeons do not accept that their patients' results are anything short of textbook perfect. It seems to be a common experience that it is difficult to have someone else acknowledge the amount of pain one is in.

It sounds like you have given a number of treatments a good shot and are not getting results. Have you started making the rounds getting "second opinions?" If not, I would suggest you find a new fellowship-trained spine specialist (if you're located in the US) and get a new pair of eyes to look at you and your MRI.

If the MRI or whatever other imaging you have had done is old, it may be time for a new one. I have no cervical experience, so can't offer specific suggestions, but hopefully some of the "neckies" will soon see your thread and join in.

Hope you are able to get some answers soon.

  • Hi Paingrlk and welcome to Spinehealth.Sometimes its hard to get anyone to understand how bad we hurt.I guess its hard for anyone to understand what we all go through unless they've been there.
I have headaches that nothing really helps much.I use my pain meds with ibuprofen and my muscle relaxants to get a little relieve.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge around here will postr with more ideas for you.Until then keep thinking positive thoughts and don't let the pain get you too far down, and I know how hard that is.I hope you find some relief soon.
    Everyone be good to yourselves,Mark

  • Welcome to Spine-Health. You'll find a lot of great information on this site and the members in the forum are very knowledgeable, supportive and friendly.

I'm a neckie, so I have a few questions. Aside from the headaches, do you have any other symptoms? Anything odd happening with your arms or shoulder/back?

It's always possible, in the cervical area, that a disk bulge can press on the spinal cord creating referred pain in other areas, mainly the arms and muscle spasms in the back/shoulder area.

Please tell us more about your symptoms and we might be able to help you more.

    Take care,

  • Cath111

Thanks for your questions. Yes I have tons of shoulder pain, and my right arm goes numb. It also twitches and moves on its own..

    Thanks for your help.
