Have no idea what my spine pain is from.

Hello I am new. Little about me I am almost 23 years old, have 3 awesome kiddos and I am 17 weeks pregnant with our last baby. Married for almost 5 years to my hubs. I have Lupus SLE and fibro among with other sister dieseases of lupus. My rhumatologist is suspecting RA but cant take any x-rays due to me being pregnant. The past month (maybe longer) I have had excuciating pain in my spine..starts mid-upper back all the way down, and hurts to try to put my chin to my chest (cant even do it). the pain is hard to describe but I am sure you all know of it. It hurst so bad latley I am limping..it hurts to sit, stand, laydown..sleep is very minimal due to me trying to find a postion to relieve just some pain. Anyone have any idea of what this sounds like? My doctor put me on 10 days worth of prednisone (10mg) b/c I am in a lupus flare, and that is taking the edge off the pain to make life manageable, but my spine still hurts pretty badly, and I am scared the pain is going to go back to what it was after I stop taking the prednisone. Also, my right side of my back goes numb and tingly? and the whole right side of my body has decreased feeling then the left. I have had back discomfort before from pregnancy and I know this is something more than that, I have a pretty high pain tolerence but the spine pain is almost to the point of unbareable. Any ideas? sorry so long and rambly. I hope everyone is having a great day!

  • I'm sorry you're having this back pain right now. I would ask your Gyn/Obstetrics Dr. for their advice what you should do in your condition. I work at a high risk Gyn/Obstetric hospital and it sounds like you need a Medical Obstetrics Specialist to help you out. I'm not in the USA so couldn't really direct you there. A Doctor could assess you and diagnose what's going on. I wish you all the best and follow up with your Dr. Take care and hope the prednisone can ease up some of your pain. Charry

  • Wow, 4th kid! I'm impressed...just reading about it makes me tired. You must have a lot of energy!

    I'm sorry you are hurting.
Not to pry too much but how much time did your body have to 'recoop' from the last baby before you got pregnant? I ask b/c perhaps it's just that your body already knows to prepare for the pregnancy.

I can't offer any advice but I would continue to speak to your OBGYN and ask if there is anything you can do that won't hurt the baby's and your health.

After this baby, hopefully your youth and plan not to have anymore will give you a chance to allow your body to recoop and you can work on strengthening your 'core' muscles (abdominal, etc).

  • Thankyou for the responces I really appreciate it. I have told my OB about my spine pain not really in depth b/c they are more in and out type office lol, but she said she will have me meet with a aniesteseologist...I will ask more about it at my next app.
And dont worry about prying I will answer just about anything to get a idea of what might be going on :) My kids are very close together. I have a 3 yr old a 2 yr old and a 16 month old. My last pregnancy and this pregnancy is the farthest apart my pregnancies have been. I am sure pregnancy is helping exasterbate the problem but imo I think something else may be up..again, thankyou so much for your replies..they are appreciated :)
  • It sounds as if you are having some cervical neck problems with possible nerve compression. MRI would need to be done to determine what is wrong. As far as I know MRIs can safely be done during pregnancy if contrast medium is not used ( it is not necessary for this type of exam). Would speak to your OB about it. When I bend my neck forward I get electric shocklike pains. Also have numbness, tingling and shocklike pains in arms and hands and down sides of my back. Good luck.
If OB wants you to wait until after pregnancy just make sure you have test done then and have it done at a quality hospital or radiological center.
