I wanted to share this. I woke up from my acdf surgery with breathing and cardiac issues(tachycardia). I ended up having a sleep study that showed i developed obstructive sleep apnea. I didn't have these symptoms going in.....now they are permanent unless I use a CPAP machine!

ALL my Drs said it wasn't possible....don't know why you're hypoxic, apnea...you must have had it before? No....the hardware isn't lifting....you shouldn't be able to feel it when you swallow?

Well here it is....documented proof that the hardware indeed does cause airway obstruction POST ACDF....

I am 7 months out and have seen a zillion specialists over this.....

NONE seem to be able to tell me why my skin is hot to the touch sometimes....my neck especially...WHY my chest arms and back burn....i've ben icing and icing....but at 7 monts out i havent even fused.....i think its because i didnt have enough oxygen?

desparate for answers

  • Kind of makes a case for a posterior approach. I don't know where to tell you to go for help. Maybe try to get to a big city teaching hospital that specializes in spinal surgeries. Someone has to know what could of caused this.

I just love it when these surgeons always try to blame, or set up someone/something to blame before you ever have surgery. You klnow you didn't have a problem going into this surgery yet you are being the scapegoat because the surgeon hasn't run across it yet. I would be thinking along the lines of contacting a lawyer to see what my options were.

  • I hate to hear your post. I hope whatever the problem is that someone takes the time to listen and help you fix it. You cannot live like that.

Best wishes and prayers sent your way.
