i have mutiple (8+) compression fractures in my spine. most of them are in the thoracic area. they are all 4 or 5 years old at least. they have caused severe kyphosis and deformity which has caused all kinds of other problems; acute chronic pain, difficulty breathy, rib fractures, loss of 8 inches or more in height..
So far I cannot find a doc that will even consider surgery. I've tried all other forms of treatment and currently see lots of specialists as a fprm of damage control. However, I am only 28 and am concerned about living this way for the rest of my life. Does anyone know of any docs, surgeries or treatments that may help?
Also, my osteoporosis is somehwat of a mystery. I was diagnosed with it at 17 and for a time it was severe, so severe that the docs said they's never seen anything like it, not even in elserly patients. They ultimately determined that it was caused by the juvenile rheumatoid arthritis I've had since age 2. However, the RA was mild, and they'd never seenanyone my age with anything like it, even from RA or RA meds (mine was not from the meds, i never took steroids) I am looking for anyone else out there who may have a similar story...

  • Hi Kalessa, i had surgery for an arachnoid cyst that was wrapped around my spinal cord. i had a little kyphosis and scoliosis before surgery but just a little. right after surgery I got a compound fraction at T6 where the surgeon worked. That was over a year ago. I just got another fracture at T6 and I am so hunched over my new spine surgeon said it was bad and is having me fitted with a brace. It's too far up in my back and too dangerous for me to have anything done about it. I am 57 and have other health problems. my bone density test wasn't too good and I read somewhere online that with scoliosis and kyphosis he should have given me something for my bones for a few months and not cut me 12 inches....thats how long my scar is. Have you heardf anything about that? It was interesting because I didn't know you could get fractures if you didn't take something when u had scoliosis and kyphosis and had surgery. I would appreciate any input you have. wow you have had a lot of fractures!!!! Sorry to hear that. you can get them from too much steroids? I wonder why you got them? just weak bones?
