allergic to surgical tape. Have you ever tried to pull tape off of raw skin? It's very painful! :jawdrop: And the hair under the tape, dosen't help either!

  • Hi Jim,
I'm also allergic to surgical dressings and got red lumps and blisters.
When they changed the dressing, as they pulled it off, it broke the blisters!

    Hope you heal soon
  • Eeks! Poor you. They have adhesive remover at health supplies stores. It's used in the hospitals. It's really smelly but removes tape without pain. I'm used to doing deep packings every week when I was working and it's a must have.I recommend anyone going for surgery to ask the Nurse for some adhesive wipes before going home if you have to change your dressing. Another thing to add I guess for the post op must haves list. Hope you're feeling better Jim after your surgery. TC. Charry

  • Eeek!I am so sorry!!!! I sure hope you get some relief, enough is enough.Do you have a salve to put on it?
  • But I didn't know it until:

And this was 1 bandage change... I still endured 14 more...

But I already pulled the all tape off ouch! Maybe that should go in the pre op must haves. Make sure if youre allergic, you remember to tell them! This wasn't my first picnic! I just forgot.

  • It must be to certain types of tape because some medical tape I'm fine to, but I got some bandages from walgreens and I was allergic all over the place, and bumps and all. :S
  • Hey Jim,

I'm sure I'm a bit behind on the update but glad you are back from your procedure. Sorry about tape...ouch!
  • Sorry I missed wishing you good luck prior to surgery but best wishes for a speedy recovery now that it's behind you! That tape allergy is so irritating! It's so common you think they would ask you prior to any prcedure if you are allergic to any tape, etc!!! You're not aka dummy, we all forget these things! I forgot too and by the time I got home after surgery the damage was done! I hope you have found something to sooth it and feel better by now!

  • ... but I didn't know I had an allergy as it was my first surgery!
No other dressings have ever caused a problem.
  • I can relate to that awful feeling! And boy does it itch when it's healing. I hope everything else is going well for your recovery. Lynette
